Pilbara Expansion Project
THE CLIENT
One of Australia’s leading lithium producers, operating in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. As part of their continued growth, they initiated the Pilbara Expansion Project to significantly scale up production capacity in response to global demand.
BRIEF
The client engaged IKAD to support a major upgrade of their lithium operations. The scope was primarily platework and associated pipework for their crushing plant. The scope including material processing, fabrication, preservation including rubber and ceramic lining. These works commenced in 2023 and finished in mid-2024 and consisted of approximately 1,400 tonnes.
PLANNING FOR SUCCESS
IKAD approached the project with a clear strategy to manage scale, complexity, and evolving deadlines. A dedicated project team was formed early in the engagement, including the appointment of a graduate engineer to assist with coordination and scheduling. This ensured strong oversight and control across planning, execution, and client communication.
OUR APPROACH
IKAD managed the full delivery cycle, starting with design detailing based on client-provided drawings. From there, IKAD oversaw procurement, fabrication, welding, surface treatment, preservation, quality assurance, and final logistics. All three IKAD workshops were utilised, ensuring full in-house capability.
When the client’s timelines shifted due to production pressures, IKAD responded by introducing a night shift and engaging local subcontractors to expand capacity. This allowed for flexible resourcing without compromising quality. The structured, scalable approach enabled rapid response to change while maintaining high performance standards.
WHAT THE CLIENT RECEIVED
The client received high-quality fabricated and assembled components delivered within, and often ahead of, revised deadlines. The reliability and responsiveness shown by IKAD ensured the client met their critical production milestones. The project also brought regional economic benefits through local subcontractor engagement, reinforcing the clients commitment to community inclusion.
MOVING FORWARD
The successful delivery of the Pilbara Expansion Project resulted in ongoing engagement between IKAD and the client. IKAD is now supporting the client through continued maintenance services and the future supply of rotable parts. The project stands as a benchmark for collaboration, responsiveness, and quality, and has further cemented IKAD’s reputation as a trusted partner in major resource projects.
